What is a good Mac antivirus application?
So I am getting a new MacBook pro for college and my school requires that I run an antivirus program. They supply a program called McAfee virusscan for Mac 9.0 or you can get your own program. I was curious if this is a good program or not as I currently use McAfee for windows (which I find to be decent). If this program isn’t that good does anyone have a recommendation for a better program. Thanks!

I used to work for a Mac software development company and we liked McAffee just fine. It doesn’t make your machine slow like Norton does.

I have just bought the new Macbook Pro 13″, I’m unaware of what antivirus programs are around for MAC that are free, i’m so used to windows.
If possible could someone give me a list or just the best one that is available for free

It is not so easy to find good antivirus software for Mac systems because these are not readily available, though at the same time, what you get is sure to be really good and highly effective. What is even more heartening to know is that there are fewer viruses that will attack your Mac as compared to the Windows environment.
PC Tools iAntivirus for Mac is however a good example of antivirus software for the Mac and is available for free for home users. This software will protect your system against Mac related malware and is good for a Mac only environment but not quite so useful if you are using an environment in which both Mac and Windows is being used.
ClamXav is free antivirus software for your Mac computer and is open source that obviously is highly popular among those that love open source code. However, do not expect to get the same kind of protection from this software as you would get from those that are commercially produced.

How do I remove avast antivirus mac version from my macbook?
Earlier today I posted a question about malware on my macbook. I took someone’s advice and went to the apple site and downloaded this, but I hate it. I cannot figure out how to get it off my machine. It won’t let me force quit or close the application at all. I cannot drag it to the trash. How do I get it off? I have Leopard.
Ok, I really don’t know how to shut down all protection modules….please advise.

Open the preferences panel and after that choose the general option (you have 2 options at the top of the page i cant remember what they say but its the first one) unselect a square that says “protection at start” or something like that is in the left side almost in the middle is easy, then shut down avast n go to activity monitor and shut down the 2 apps from avast, then you just have to drag avast app to the recycle bin.

I bought the software (from the Apple store- I bought the physical box) and I’m installing it and it keeps asking for a subscription key. It’s not on the disc sleeve and I don’t think it’s on the box, where is it?
